This piece is one of twelve that I did during this period. I wanted to do abstract portraits of people in and around my life that would capture their essence rather than a representational depiction. This piece was the first piece confronted by those attending the opening of the installation. The woman that it was depicting attended and I noticed her standing in front of this piece studying it intensely. I engaged with her and the first thing she said to me was, “This reminds me of someone I know.” I knew in that moment I had accomplished my intent. I simply replied, “If you look at it any piece of art long enough you will begin to see yourself.” This is the only piece of the twelve that remains in my possession.
