"Two-Faced Woman"

You cannot hang the piece so that it is straight on the wall as it is a trapezoid, measuring 50 inches down the left side and across the bottom and 48 inches across the top and done the right side. This was intentional as a two-faced person will throw you off balance every time.
This piece is one of twelve that I did during this period (1986-1987). I did abstract portraits of people in and around my life that would capture their essence rather than a representational depiction. This piece was the first piece confronted by those attending the opening of the installation. It was also the only one that wasn't sold and I was happy about that as it was my favorite of the twelve and I have carried her with me for three decades. The woman that inspired this piece attended the opening reception of the installation and I noticed her standing in front of this piece studying it intensely. I engaged with her and the first thing she said to me was, “This reminds me of someone I know.” I knew in that moment I had accomplished my intent. The piece is signed "Van Kleeck" which is the name I was using on my work during this period.
